Break out your blankets, vino and snacks for a free outdoor movie screening in the park.
On Saturday September 20 at 7:30 p.m, HPPC, NestSeekers International and LIC Landing will present the Academy Award nominated film Julie and Julia on the oval at Hunter’s Point South Park by the NY Waterways Ferry.
Julie & Julia contrasts the life of chef Julia Child in the early years of her culinary career with the experiences of young New Yorker Julie Powell, who aspires to cook all 524 recipes in Child’s cookbook in 365 days, a challenge she described on her popular blog. The blog was turned into a book that inspired the movie starring Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Stanley Tucci.
The movie was selected because much of its content was filmed in Long Island City and it was inspired by real-life LIC resident Julie Powell who will attend the screening and answer questions.
The organizers ask that movie-goers bring blankets or towels to sit on because chairs will not be allowed on the oval.
