Hunters Point Parks Conservancy (HPPC) will host a meeting with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) to discuss plans for Phase 2 of the Hunters Point South Park along the Long Island City waterfront. The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. June 1 at the City Lights Condo at 474 48th Avenue in Long Island City.

Staff members of the NYCEDC, which is in charge of the park’s design and construction, will present the current development plans as well as answer questions and listen to community input.

Construction of Phase 2 of the waterfront park is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by 2018. Phase 2 will be a quieter park that features a pathway around the peninsula overlooking the East River. It will include a promontory that will feature an overlook 35 feet above the water. Phase 2 includes the area bound by 54th Avenue to the north, 2nd Street to the east, Newtown Creek to the south, and the East River to the west.

When completed, the Long Island City waterfront park will total 10 acres.

Phase 1 of the park features active areas including playgrounds, a dog run and oval. It was completed in August 2013. It includes the area bound by 50th Avenue to the north, 2nd Street to the east, 54th Avenue to the south, and the East River to the west.
