The Hunters Point South Project

The Hunter’s Point South development is set to include residential housing, retail space, community and cultural facilities, a middle/high school, parking and a new 11 acre waterfront park. It will include up to 5,000 apartments and 2,000 parking spaces. The housing units are a part of Mayor Bloomberg’s $7.5 billion plan to build and preserve 165,000 units of affordable housing over a period of ten years.

Phase 1 of Hunters Point South

Phase 1, which broke ground on Wednesday February 9th, 2011 is set to be done by 2014. It will have two high rise apartment buildings with 908 apartments, 685 which will be set aside for middle-class families earning between $32,000 and $130,000 a  year. It will also include 20,000 sf of retail space and five acres of new waterfront parkland. This first phase is being lead by Related Companies who are partnering with Phipps Houses and Monadnock Construction and is expected to cost approximately $130 million.

Phase 1 Timeline

  • Infrastructure work to be completed by Spring 2013
  • Park construction will begin in Summer 2011
  • Two residential building construction set to begin in 2012
  • New school to be open in Fall of 2012
  • Entire phase expected to be completed in 2014
